We've been working on a new Calibration Client, that is both a software variable bit depth and HDR aware TPG, with Light Illusion's Cal Images in-built, as well as enabling integration with external Hardware, such as video cards from AJA and Blackmagic.
It can be controlled locally, and connects to ColourSpace via the Network Server.

  • AJA - Kona, Io, T-Tap and Corvid cards
  • Blackmagic DeckLink and UltraStudio cards

At present, the program is undergoing Beta Testing.
For more information see the Calibration Client website page.

I might be wrong but that looks like an advanced alternative to Calman's Virtualforge with more options and capabilities?
I have both AJA and BMD hardware from my postproduction days can I test?

I've emailed you directly.
But yes, you are basically correct.

If any other ColourSpace users have any of the following AJA/BMD hardware, send me an email for a 5-Day test license of the new Calibration Client software system.

  • AJA - Kona, Io, T-Tap and Corvid cards
  • Blackmagic - DeckLink and UltraStudio cards

Hi Steve
That's great—if possible, a Mac version would be awesome. I use CalibMate, but the new Calibration Client can do a lot more.

For Mac TPG I would checkout PatternSpace, as Mac has some very different requirements.

Hi Steve,

I think what danielv is referring to is that CalibMate is a native macOS app. For those of us who use a Mac as a host for a Windows virtual machine (using Parallels, for example) and run ColourSpace on that same computer, having a native macOS version of Calibration Client is extremely useful as an alternative to CalibMate. This is especially relevant for those of us using BMD video cards with SDI output.

One feature request I have for Calibration Client is the ability to use RGB 4:4:4 output through the BMD or AJA video card, rather than being limited to YCbCr 4:2:2. We have workflows where RGB 4:4:4 10-bit SDI is a strict requirement.

Thanks!

Actually, we are about to do a new Beta update with RGB 4:4:4.
And as the website pages states, a Mac and potentially Linux version are in the plans.

We have a new Beta with RGB 4:4:4 operation.
The website page has been updated too.
For anyone with AJA or BMD hardware that would like a 5-Day Beta Test license, please let me know.

That's exactly my point. Nicolai from Calibmate has stopped selling it due to technical issues with its integration into ColourSpace. It works for me, but there are bugs. A native Mac tool directly from Lightillusions would therefore be great. It's no fun when a profiling session crashes halfway through.

Just tried out the basic version on the new Calibration Client. I get far more reliable results with it than with Dogegen. It immediately indicates whether I have an active ICC profile applied and reminds me to revert the color profile to the default, which is also a handy little feature. Not to mention, it's far easier to switch between SDR and HDR patches than with Dogegen, as you don't have to type those commands manually - there's a handy little GUI for that. The client also reads the monitor's EDID, which is super useful for HDR measurements. This is so far the best TPG software I've tried yet.

Reading up on Calibration Client and it sounds great. I noticed on the Video Card page it specifies that BlackMagic Mini Recorder cannot be used, as it is input only. I'm assuming the Blackmagic Design UltraStudio Mini Monitor 12G can be used, as it is output only. Does the supported video card need to have both input and output, or output only is sufficient?

The BMD UltraStudio Mini Monitor 12G is a Thunderbolt input, video output device, so should be exactly what Calibration Client is designed to work with.
We are still in Beta Testing at the moment, so we are waiting on feedback from real users.
