Hi Everyone!

I was just curious what you in the forum thinks about the Dolby Professional Reference Monitor PRM-4200.
If it's easy to calibrate, if the out-of-the-box calibrations 709,p3 is spot on, or needs tweaking.
And as I know Steve reads all posts on the forum, what do you think about it?=)
Is it worth the money?
Anyone who has worked with one? How was that experience?

We had our eyes on a HD2line pro monitor, which is bigger but can only do rec 709 space.
Customers wants P3 space now a days and try to explain 709 to P3 conversion to some of them can be tricky..

Also, can I with Lightspace calibrate it myself or do I need a Dolby dude to do it for me every time?

Hi Emi,

We have a number of LightSpace customers with the Dolby display - they are very, very good!

Ideally you would need a Klein and Jeti probe combination for calibration - the Jeti to pre-calibrate the Klein, and the Klein for the actual calibration.

Some users are just using the Klein on its own, and results are very good!
(The Jeti is not accurate enough in the blacks/shadows for accurate calibration - the Dolby is very dark in the blacks!)

Also, Klein have promised to do a specific internal setting for the K10-A with the Dolby, so that will sort everything

Means a lot for our possible purchase that you find it to be an excellent monitor.

Will the Hubble do for calibration or is it crucial that we own a Klein?
And what did you think about the out-of-the-box cal presets?
Did your clients need to tweak them or were they accurate already?

Hi Emil,

The Hubble really can't read the black well enough, but it may be ok, if pre-calibrated against a spectro.
It is all down to the accuracy in the shadows.

To be fair, as the Hubble is no longer available we have moved to the K10-A as our probe of choice at the higher-end, with the Jeti 121 as a good spectro (or the 1201 if just being used to pre-calibrate the K10-A)

As for out of the box, that is always a variable with any display...
We would always recommend checking as a minimum.

Hi Steve, did Klein ever issue a specific internal setting for the K10-A with the Dolby? We've just purchased the monitor and just wondering what the best probe to use with our lightspace software.

Not that I am aware of...
I would ask Klein directly.
(We always pre-match to a Spectro on all displays we calibrate, so never use any internal pre-sets.)
