Hi Steve,
I have a question on the Pro version and the i1.
In the comparison page, it lists..
---
i1Display 1, 2 & LT
Eizo Internal
Spyder4 & 5
i1Display Pro
i1Pro, and i1Pro 2
---
Out of all the probes listed, what would you suggest is most accurate, especially for projector calibration?
i1 Display Pro? It seems to have good reports/results by those who have them.

I imagine, if I get a better probe later, I can upgrade the software. Is there must of a difference in purchasing the next version up?

Thanks,
James

Hi James,

Out of that list the best would be a combination i1Pro 2 and i1 Display Pro.
You use the i1 Pro 2 to pre-calibrate the i1 Display Pro, and use the i1 Display Pro for the actual profiling.

See: http://www.lightillusion.com/profiling_manual.html#probe_matching
And: http://www.lightillusion.com/probe_use.html

And yes, you can upgrade LightSpace at any time - the cost is just the differential between the versions - no additional cost!

Interesting Steve,
Why is this? Is the i1 Pro 2 SLOW? Why not use it for profile too?

And how long would you expect to use a Probe before needing to get it re-calibrated to a know best value?
Ie If you did get a i1 DISPLAY Pro, how long should you expect it to stay relatively aligned?
You mentioned that the filters change over time..
What about the more expensive probes too?

Spectro probes are more 'accurate. but slow and can't read dark colours well.
So you use the Spectro to 'calibrate' the Tristimulus probe.
