Are there any clever ways to force Color Booster on LG wOLEDs?

Color booster is compensation that corrects for the native WRGB colorimetry when Peak W > Peak R+G+B. Basically the difference between colors in Game Optimizer (no corrective processing) vs other modes on the C-series OLEDs. You can measure a saturation sweep at 100nits-CLL in HDR between the two modes using static test patterns and they'll end up measuring pretty similarly, but FMM will have obviously brighter, more accurate colors in real content.

I believe there are 2 color boosting functions. One boosts midtones and the other boosts highlights. And it might also be a thing for SDR as well, with peak brightness on. I don't use peak brightness in SDR so I never cared to look, but obviously in HDR you use peak brightness high for validation and content watching.

It's not that R+G+B is "compensating" past their peak, rather that is is doing it within their own available range.

I think it would be interesting to find a way to potentially force this, at least for color validation. When you validate a HDR10 calibration, I think it's not telling the whole story, since color booster will be disabled.

That is simply a saturation boost, which pushes the gamut into clip earlier.
And it will always break calibration, as it is totally inaccurate.

The only way to trick the LG into enabling saturation boost during calibration (as enabling calibration mode always disables it) is to try to play a video clip in the background.
But that is not guaranteed to keep the saturation boost enabled.

Thanks Steve. Yea, my interest in this was for validation, not calibration. I think it makes sense that you wouldn't want that active during calibration. I was just hoping there was a clever way to engage it to ensure that our calibrations aren't actually making things worse (w/ the booster engaged). It looks like there's really no reliable way to force it. I've seen some attempts but seems tricky. I wish LG would just simply allow us to toggle it on/off so that we could validate with it on.
