I'm calibrating an LG 32EP950 (firmware 3.23) with ColourSpace LTE and an i1Display Pro HL, uploading through LG Pro into the P3-D65, AdobeRGB and sRGB modes. From about code 26 up everything verifies well (35-patch average dE2000 0.46).
The problem is the darkest greys. I measured every code from 0 to 24 after the upload, and below code 16 the light rises much more slowly than the LUT asks for. Code 8 gives only 20% of code 16's light, and code 4 about 4%. That is the shape you get if the monitor draws a straight line from black to code 16 in the LUT (this mode measures about 2.2 power with a LUT loaded).
In the .csb, the grey node at input 8 is 0.067 / 0.061 / 0.071 and the node at 16 is 0.089 / 0.087 / 0.090, so code 8 should come out at roughly half of code 16's light, not a fifth. It looks as if the monitor skips every other grey point and only uses 0, 16, 32 and so on. All three picture modes do the same with their own LUTs.
My P3-D65 profile did read zero on its lowest grey patch (Intelligent Integration was off), but I don't think that matters here: the LUT has a sensible value at 8, the monitor just doesn't seem to use it.
So, three questions:
1. What does ColourSpace actually send to the 32EP950: the full 33³ cube, or something smaller, for example a 17³ cube plus a 1D grey LUT?
2. If there is a 1D, can it be made finer or shaped near black, so codes 1-15 can be corrected?
3. If not, is there anything in ColourSpace you'd recommend for near black on this model?
