Dell monitor LUT based calibration

With the next release of ColourSpace we have added full ColourSpace Integration for the new Dell UltraSharp U3226Q QD-OLED professional grading monitor.
This monitor has some advanced calibration capabilities with ColourSpace, as usual far in advanced of the options available with alternative calibration systems, such as Calman.

The Dell User Guide already explains the advanced options and capabilities.

However, one thing that kinda shocked us when performing this integration was a very specific issue we found with the older Dell UP2720Q & UP3221Q monitors.
We have always pointed out that the iTPG was not usable with ColourSpace for 3D LUT calibration, as we were not able to get it to verify the applied 3D LUT calibration.
We therefore just enabled the iTPG that was at the end of the signal pipeline, and disabled the iTPG that should have been usable for calibration verification.
(Dell monitors have 2 iTPGs - with one at the end of the signal pipeline, and one at - near - the beginning.)

With the new integration work we had to do for the new Dell monitor, we again looked into this, as Calman states the iTPG can be used for calibration verification.
What we found was something of a shock, as the iTPG that Calman say can be used for calibration verification is AFTER the location of the 3D LUT, and can ONLY verify the state of the 1D-Matrix-1D components - NOT the 3D LUT...

So, what does this mean for Calman calibration of the Dell monitors?
The obvious suggestion is that Calman calibration is just 1D LUT and 3x3 Matrix based - not 3D LUT based.

With the new Dell U3226Q monitor the iTPG for verification (what we call 'Full, Cal on') is located before the 3D LUT, so works as expected.
At least it can with ColourSpace.
