Weird blacks with Premier PFE?

Hi,

So this has been something that has been sort of nagging at me for a while now that I try time and time again to work around with no particularly good solution.

I noticed that the Kodak 2393 Premier stock emulation that's included with ColourSpace is very finnicky when you start getting into the deeper shadows.

I don't particularly recall seeing this issue with the other two stocks profiles as they have notably smoother gradients in the shadows, but Premier feels weirdly "jerkier" where it has a tendency to borderline break the image the closer it gets to true black. On top of this comes the noticeable issue of the stock never actually attaining true black without additional tweaks.

I understand that this is likely a result of the process of measuring the actual print stock and translating it to a LUT conversion process, but I do find it a bit odd that it functions less smoothly than the other LUTs (especially given my understanding is that these profiles came from averages).

I don't suppose there's any sort of in-house rule-of-thumb of how to best utilize this LUT is there? I've been trying to apply it in XYZ Gamma 4.0 to avoid baking in any gamut clipping (as Rec.2020 and ACES AP1 noticeably constrain the cube), but I wonder if there's perhaps a recommended guideline for this sort of thing?

They are the blacks in Premier film.
We have made no attempt to correct that, as that is the stock's profile.
If you want to change that you will need to use the LUT Adjust tools in ColourSpace.
Same with black tending towards 'blue'.
Premier stock just has those characteristics.
