Where is this LUT adjustment taking place, Graphics Card, or Monitor Level?

As I am new to calibration and have a keen interest and have tried different software packages and hope someone can give me some advice here.

I have an i1DisplayPro retail version so I believe will not work with light illusion due to licensing issues.

I am also trying to calibrate my Dell P1130 CRT monitor using WinDAS software which lets me adjust the service menu in the set, the reason for doing this is that the set is old and has drifted a lot from spec.

I am trying to get my head around the LUT adjustment and if this is adjusting at graphics card level or monitor specific level.

Do I need to reset the LUT while in Calman RGB before making any adjustments to correct the monitor?
I feel if I do not reset the LUT I am not calibrating correctly.

I have tried using HCFR and Calman RGB but I am not getting consistent results.

I would like to try LightSpace but I would have to change the meter!

Derek, please mail me directly... I may be able to help regarding the probe.

But, to answer the basic question, you cannot use a 3D LUT as such to calibrate a PC display as the graphics card ONLY uses 1D grey scale calibration.
This is via what is known as a VCGT - Video Card Gamma Table.
You have to use ICC profiles and software that is ICC compliant to get gamut calibration control.
When looking at video or images via software that is NOT compliant with ICC profile you will not be seeing 'calibrated colour' - just grey scale.

This is why most users looking for accurate display calibration use a LUT box in the signal path.
