From a Facebook post, commenting on a new ColourSpace update release, where we mentioned an underlying code change in readiness for a major new development:

"Looking forward to the next major update, thanks for all you do - the best just keeps getting better!"

We do really appreciate such comments!

And an example of the type of emails we receive regularly...

"I have been researching ColourSpace for some days now as I read a lot of good things about it. I am currently using Calman and I am (as many) very displeased with results and operation stability."

It is very unfortunate that many people invest in Calman, and then later realise their mistake, be that with results, stability, or ongoing yearly costs...
And it is very telling the there are very, very few such complaints from ColourSpace users, and even less that chose to move to Calman from ColourSpace.

And initial message from a Calman user that has now upgraded to ColourSpace:

"...we've been strongly reconsidering again changing away from Calman due to the heinous yearly upkeep fees."

The difference in costs for ColourSpace vs. Calman really do add up!
For a Calman Video Pro license the initial cost was $1,800, with a yearly support fee of $620...
ColourSpace HTP is £1,275 - approx. $1,700 - with no additional yearly fees.

Some comments from a recent contact request via our website.

"I got a 77G5 OLED A few months ago and as you probably are aware it has issues in HDR even with the new 0.35 firmware update I upgraded my meter from I1D3 Pro to calman's C6 HDR 5000 and got their pattern generator G1. Their LG autocal program is still very underwhelming, And even when doing things manually it has issues with the 3D lut etc. I'm specifically trying to get HDR 10 in line on this TV especially near black and it would be also nice obviously to have colors look good too! Can I use this meter and the G1 pattern generator successfully with a specific program (please recommend which one) by colourspace instead? And or if I was to use colorspace to make a 3D lut file since that part of Calman is specifically terrible what program would I want for just that? I haven't used colourspace since my E6 OLED when I used it with HCFR... But you guys were always very helpful Unfortunately I'll probably have to eat the cost of the calman's license unless I try to get a refund. It would be nice to also use the program to calibrate SDR I'm sure that's possible but what about Dolby Vision does colourspace offer the ability to calibrate and verify dolby on the G5? Thanks so much!"

What is particularly sad about this contact request is the fact the gaudy gold C6 and G1 TPG are locked to only work with Calman, meaning the hardware purchases are as redundant as the Calman software...
That is very unfortunate, and this is not the first user to be caught-out by this, and will not be the last either.
ColourSpace HTL, with any i1D3 and PGen would be a lot cheaper, especially due to their being no yearly support/maintenance fees, as well as the hardware being open to work with any other calibration system - although Calman have removed support for PGen from their software, and limit the available EDR/Corr. Files that can be used with non-C6 versions of the i1D3. ColourSpace has no such restrictions, and has many Corr. Files, with specific TV/monitor models listed, not the 'generic' files Calman uses in many instances, as for LG TVs.
In this instance the user already had a RevB-02 i1D3, with is the same hardware as the C6...
(see this post, and the one following it.)
A very sad and unfortunate situation for the user.

From a new ColourSpace user:

"You were very much right that ColourSpace is indeed superior to Calman and I have been very happy to have gone with it. I've also been watching your YouTube tutorials which I think are fantastic and in-depth, I'm surprised they don't have more viewers although I'd imagine most of your users are probably more sophisticated than I am with this sort of software."

It is great to get such positive comments!

From a discussion between 2 home calibrators on another forum regarding calibration of Sony TVs, for which Calman should work as it has its Autocal operation.

"Calman is not a great example of well designed and implemented software. Every calibration session I start will always produce an issue of some form with it. Whenever I've fed back issues, the feedback has gone unanswered too."

"As usual, Calman was inconsistent, and I now just shut it down if I go from one video format calibration to another. I get inconsistent results otherwise, caused by manually changing the TPG output."

And the second user's response:

"I've never been happier switching to ColourSpace ZRO, an affordable yet very useful solution that doesn't make me miss Calman and provides much more accurate readings at low stimulus levels, unlike Calman, where all readings from 0-30% gave falsely perfect values.
It also has excellent support, thanks to the people on this forum, and numerous spectral corrections for i1D3.
The true calibration of the A95L is the pt1 of 20 pts, which is impossible using my Calman."

The issue with 'false readings' is something that has been mentioned many times with Calman.
With ColourSpace all readings show the data as measured by the probe, with no alteration/adjustment/filtering at all."

From another forum, in response to a user moving to ColourSpace ZRO for manual calibration after using Calman:

"I came from HCFR and was pretty confused at first too. Don't sweat it, you'll get the hang of it, then you'll see how much more powerful ZRO really is. Especially when you start making your own patchsets. Then it's a whole new ballgame."

As we always say, getting calibration right is about knowledge and understanding, and not relying on a 'Next, Next, Next' approach, as with Calman, where you learn nothing, and have no idea what's gone wrong when the results are bad...

Another alternative forum post, also in response to a user moving to ColourSpace ZRO for manual calibration after using Calman:

"I'm already finding very nice features with ColourSpace, that give noticeably greater precision with measure > change process over Calman. I'm sure more benefits will become apparent the more familiar I get with it."
