Hi all,

Datacolour have announced that they will now enable 3dlut calibration via .cube format via Spyder pro. From what I can tell it's a 33^3 size LUT. They are also claim up to 12,000 nits support. Important to note however that their software still from what I can see does not support a spectral correction matrix from a spectro, also it seems they are relying on software for the 12,000 nits as it doesn't appear to show any sensor upgrade- not that they post their specs anyway. Also, I'm sure that their engine and math to generate the LUT is not as precise as what's used in ColourSpace. Seems to be a step in the right direction but still seems to have significant shortcomings as well. Curious as to what your thoughts are. Here is some readings on it

Thanks everyone,

Unfortunately, Spyder probes are just appallingly bad, irrespective of the calibration software used.
They should not be relied on for any calibration work requiring actual accuracy.
It really is that simple...

Couldn't agree more. I guess there is only so much you can deliver for the price of the Spyder probe. Fortunately, I'm not the target audience and am lucky to have high end probes

As the Spyder is basically the same price as a Calibrite there is no excuse for such poor performance...

They also have an extremely short video of a colorist claiming to profile an LG WOLED for a 3D LUT calibration using a SpyderPro, creating the LUT using datacolor's software, and then applying the LUT by including a Blackmagic Design Micro Converter in the video chain.

That video is some of the worst marketing ever!
Absolutely nothing of value in it at all.
