ColourSpace 1.0.1.2322
LUT Generation Size: 33

Run a Characterisation using the attached patch list Test1D.csv.txt in UnSorted order. Target Rec709, 10-bit Full, using Virtual Probe configured for Rec709, 100 nits. Create a LUT from that profile, with Source Rec709, Limit Luminance Max 100 nits, Normal Range, Peak Chroma. See the popup at the end say that only 88% is within target gamut.

Now repeat the process, but using Anisometric sort order. See the popup at the end say that only 24% is within target gamut.

Why does the sort order matter, and why are both less than 100% within target gamut?

The issue is the use of the Virtual Probe, combined with a patch set that is NOT correct for a Quick Profile.
Correct that patch set, and use a real probe.

Steve

EDIT: I corrected the patch set, and all works are expected.

Thanks. So if I really only want to measure gray scale for a 1D LUT upload, the patch list needs to conform to the Quick Profile requirements, and the gray ramp can't exceed the LUT Generation Size and can't exceed 101. Do I have that right?

That is what the User Guides say, so yes, that is correct.

For 1D LUT upload, is there any underlying engine advantage to using Grey Ramp RGBCMY+ vs Grey Ramp RGB?

Yes, as per the User Guides.
There is even more benefit in using Grey, Primary & Secondary Ramp+.
And even more in using a full volumetric profile.

Can you explain why measuring additional colors improves 1D LUT generation?

Because there is no such thing as a grey scale as a separate entity from the full colour volume, as is explained in the User Guides.
So you cannot correct a grey scale via any LUT (1D or 3D) without understanding the associated colour volume.
That is why there is NO profiling option that has zero 'colour' patches.

This is totally separate from making manual grey scale adjustments, where the colour volume is totally irrelevant.
