PA32UCG Monitor Support w/ Mac

Hi there,

I'm hoping to purchase Colourspace LTE to calibrate and use with Davinci Resolve for UHD colour grading on my Mac Studio. I hope to primarily use the Asus ProArt PA32UCG, and maybe occasionally an LG C3 for client review. I'll just be using an Ultrastudio for I/O so I understand I'll only have a single 1080p HDMI out.

I've tried to connect my monitor to my mac via USB or Thunderbolt to use its built-in probe via Asus's own 'ProArt' calibration software. Unfortunately the software doesn't recognize the monitor at all. The HDMI works fine, but I've tried the other hardware connections with multiple Macs and they won't connect. I suspect it's a software/firmware issue but I can't figure it out, and Asus support wasn't much help.

My question is, do I need this USB link to get the Connected Hardware/Hardware Integration options to work in Colourspace? There's a chance that running it in a virtual environment my address my connection issues, but I'm not sure.

Secondly, I was wondering if you could recommend an affordable probe for this mini-LED display that would work well w/ Colourspace for this application?

Thanks for any insight!

As with any 'monitor's in-built probe', they are never the best option.
And yes, the ASUS internal probe will work via ColourSpace on Mac using Windows emulation.
Just tested again to verify with a Mac M1.

The cheapest viable alternative is the i1D3, now provided by Calibrite (ignore their software, it is not viable for our industry). You can get an i1D3 for a couple hundred $.

We never use ASUS software, so cannot comment on that.

Thanks Steve, that's helpful. Appreciate you testing it with an M1 to confirm compatibility. Was that just using HDMI, or also a USB connection?

I take it the I1D3HL would be the most appropriate model?

HDMI is for video input.
USB is used for calibration, including the internal probe, LUT upload, etc.
And please see the i1D3 page of the website for info on the different models: https://lightillusion.com/i1d3_manual.html
