How long should I trust a cheap probe?

Hello Steve,
One more pearl of wisdom please.
You support many probes. Especially the more cost effective units that seem more usable than expected.. However, in doing a lot of research on this, I have not been able to find a lot of info on exactly how long a i1 DISPLAY Pro would be serviceable before you would expect it to have drifted due to age of filters etc.

And if so, like you mentioned you could use a spectro to match the older probe back to a calibrated/accurate reference.

Just wanted to get an idea of the long term financial commitment in keeping the equipment serviceable.
I think your suggestion of using an i1 Display Pro with a i1 Pro 2 was an interesting and great suggestion.
But then again, the CR-100 I see you using, (Tho I expect you match it to a more accurate spectro too) would have similar maintenance needs?

I must admit, looking at this. The cheapness of a i1 DISPLAY Pro, and in my experiance, base on it being new straight out of the factory, and doing a great job.. The cost of purchasing a new probe every year.. Is not such a bad idea.

Thanks,
James

If kept in a cool dark storage, with silica gel bags to prevent moisture, the filters will stay accurate for years - three or more easily.

But, accuracy wise the CR-100 and K10-A are in a league apart, even without matching to a spectro (however, I use a CR-250RH spectro with a CR-100 as my main probes).
