Why XYZ?

Hi guys,

I'm preparing a little workshop on color and LUTs for a local school and I'm missing a bit of info...

Does anybody know why the DCI decided to go for XYZ instead of RGB for theatrical representation? The projectors need to convert the color space to it's native colorspace (RGB).

Was it for security reasons?

Thanks!

RGB is not a colour space...
