Preparing Image Files for MatchLight Profiling

Hi Steve,

I have a question about preparing image files for use with MatchLight. I'm currently using MatchLight to profile some film negatives and have been creating a color chart from a camera dataset. I'd like to know the best practices for achieving the most accurate LUT results.

Could you please advise on the ideal resolution and file format (EXR, DPX, TIFF, JPG, etc.) to use? I've tried a few options, but the results haven't been great, as I'm experiencing issues like banding in some colors. I've also attached the LUT result for reference.

Thank you for your help!

For the best results you would need a range of colour patches that cover the full gamut and brightness range.
Basically, a patch set as used within ColourSpace for profiling.
Having artefacts in the resulting LUT means either colours are missing, or input colours are not mapping to the correct output colours.
Using any image format with compression will also cause issues.

I'm currently using EXR images rendered from DaVinci Resolve, with the color space correctly tagged. I'm working with the DaVinci Wide Gamut color space and the DaVinci Intermediate transfer function, which I've already applied during the rendering process.

Regarding input color mapping, is this something I should adjust during the render process, or is there an option in MatchLight to apply input transform mapping?

Using a 'tagged' colour space, etc., is not required, and is likely going to cause issues.
You just need colours that are full rang in all directions, to cover the full gamut and brightness.

For the mapping, I mean that the pixels in the 'before' image align correctly with the 'after' image.
