VPL-VW1100ES calibration

Hi peeps, I have to do a P3 calibration on a Sony VPL-1100ES. It seems like it really drops the brightness when switching to the internal DCI profile. Does any of you ever got a good P3 calibration out of it? Should I use the sRGB profile as a base?

Thanks

Mat

Any projector will have a major brightness drop when switching to a wide colour gamut mode, as the colour filters have to be much darker to provide the narrower colour bandwidth...

There is nothing you can do about that.

You need a narrower bandwidth for a wider color space?

It's why 2020 won't be achieved on solid-state displays; look at the green primary - that needs to be a monochromatic source (i.e. a laser) to sit on the spectral curve (and quite a curvy bit!) - a primary with any kind of bandwidth will sit inside the colour space (slightly desaturated, nearer to the white point). Red and Blue sit on more linear parts of the locus and so it's easier to achieve that primary with some spread to their spectrum. It does seem strange that they defined Rec.2020's primaries actually on the spectral locus?!
