How to calibrate my LG TV for PC HDR gaming?

Hi, I recently bought ZRO and try to learn the basics of how to calibrate. I really love what you guys are doing and the software is amazing!

I would like to calibrate my LG G2 TV (from 2022) as I'm using it sometimes as a PC gaming monitor. My assumption would be that I have to:

- Activate the HDR Mode within Windows 11, make sure the output is 2160p/120Hz with 10 bit and 444 chroma.
- Activate HGiG for source based tone mapping and set the clipping point in the Win HDR calibration tool.
- Use the "Full range 10 bit HDR greyscale patches for LG" that Ted has uploaded.
- Set the correct settings within ZRO for HDR calibration as provided in the guide
- The PGenerator is not required for this scenario, since games don't send HDR meta data anyway.

Are my assumptions so far correct or have missed something? Thank you so much!

Hi,

Set your GPU output as YCbCr 4:4:4 REC.2020, change your HDMI TV input to PC (to enable full chroma processing on your TV), and then download and use the patchlists from the first post and the LG GUI utility.

Use the 8-bit patchlists.

PGenerator can use 10-bit.

Thank you for responding so fast!
As I lack some knowledge here, my I ask why I should not set my GPU to RGB Full with 10bit? Isn't that also the format that HDR PC Games support? Why should a I use 8bit Patch lists instead of 10bit? Thank you so much!

Windows GUI is working in 8-bit.

MadVR as TPG can work in exclusive mode at 10-bit, but ZRO does not support MadVR as TPG.

Since Windows are working in 8-bit, if you use 10-bit output, then it will convert the 8-bit value to 10-bit value.

Using a PGenerator with a Pi4/Pi400 board, you can generate 10-bit patches and use 10-bit patchlists.

YCbCr 4:4:4 is compressed but lossless, and RGB is uncompressed, so they are virtually the same.

The patchlists we provide work in LEGAL; you can't use them for FULL range calibration.

RGB-FULL is the FULL range.

YCbCr 4:4:4 is LEGAL range.

Thank you for the explanation! I will get a Raspberry Pi 4 in the next days.

Regarding the patchlists: I'm currently using "Teds Patchlists for ColourSpace (February 2021)" which contains the folder "For PC (0-255) Patch Generation". My assumption was that I can use these patchlists to calibrate my TV or monitor with a full range signal from my PC. Did I misunderstood this? Can I only calibrate a limited range signals with ColourSpace ZRO?

Thank you again and sorry for the noob questions.

Kmali

You are referencing a patchlist that matches the patches when you playback the SDR Media files from your internal PC software player to your monitor/TV.

The Video files are LEGAL; when you playback on a PC, the software player will expand the LEGAL to DATA levels, so in that case, you have to use the FULL patchlist.

When you play back those SDR files from a stand-alone media player or Blu-Ray USB port, you will use the LEGAL patchlists.

ColourSpace can calibrate all ranges.

Those patchlists can be used for SDR; the HDR patchlists and the instructions regarding the HDR calibration of your TV are available in the first post of the LG GUI app thread in AVSForum:

Thank you! I'm using my PC as "the player", in this case for HDR PC gaming. Therefore used full range 10 bits in the settings and for the patches.
