I wouldn't call it a "connection issue", since there is evidence of two-way communication between ColourSpace or bscpylgtv and the C4 devices. It's "just" limited in scope.
I consulted with one of the developers of bscpylgtv. According to his assesment, there could be two logical explanations:
- The remote controller (CS, bs, CalMAN, etc) client is not grated with the neccessary access rights to run the calibration related API calls/commands.
- The API itself has changed, the cailbration related calls/commands were changed (this makes little sense) or got disabled/removed (at least for some select region specific C4 models where LG doesn't want to grant these capabilities for some reason).
These could all be accidental changes or intentional decisions.
The other Hungarian ColourSpace and CalMAN user (a professional calibration technician) we contacted has the same issue. Even thouhg he has both CS and CalMAN licenses (my CalMAN license has experired), he prefered to contact Spectracal about the issue (because CalMAN also stopped working on these new LG models/firmwares for him).
This was enough confirmation for me not to investigate this issue further on my end with the resources currently available for me (if we have the exact same issue and we both tried the easy logical shortcuts like Factory Reset and direct wire connection instead of the wider local network, trying at least 2 different remote contorol solutions, etc) it must be an issue with these region specific TV models and their firmware (and trying anything else, like yet another Factory reset or network setup, PC reinstalls, software config resets, etc, etc, are all just a waste of time).
I wonder if you could provide instructions to get ColourSpace to omit a detailed debug log about what happens (or could give us a debug build where debug logging is enabled). But I am afraid this won't be fixed unless LG gets to knows and wishes to fix it (so, in case this was an intentional decision on LG's side then this might never gets fixed).
Since I have zero contacts to LG and I am pretty sure that a regular support ticket to LG Hungary would be a dead end (only a waste of time and sanity), all I can do is asking the developers of the various calibration solutions to contact LG and figure this out. But I am afraid that even that could take mounts (even for the fix to pop up in an "Engineering" firmware build, let alone as a regular "User" channel update).
OFF: The funny things is that we acquired a "LUT box" (BlackMagic Bi-Converter 12G) and that was also rendered useless with the latest firmware with no downgrade option (there is a heavy green tint with this 9.x firmware and the last good known version can no longer be flashed to the box's firmware). So, as it stands, these C4 displays are running with factory default colors (except a basic 1-point WP adjustment from the regular user menu to get it closer to a regular LCD D65 WP). Fortunately, these factory colors on the C4 displays are much better than the factory colors of the CX displays which were replaced by the C4s, so we can wait.
