About the same price...
Customers seriously interested in Home Cinema do tend to spend a fair bit on kit!

Hi folks - some advance info, before it gets made fully public...

We have the integration of the Lumagen and eeColor boxes fully operational now with LightSpace CMS.
And the results are very good - especially good for home user display calibration

And, we have negotiated a special Light Illusion price for the eeColor box...
The eeColour box can be purchased via Light Illusion for £375 GBP, plus shipping - shipping is approx £75 GBP.

This is a serious reduction on the purchase price available anywhere else for this box.

More information will be posted on the main Light Illusion website, including user and operational workflows, etc., but feel free to ask any questions in the meantime.

Cheers,

Steve

Now that is what we need. Will ee drop ship in the US to cut down on the shipping charge?

Hi Buzz,

Shipping will be on a location basis - so internal within the US will be cheaper.

I have just supplied one drop-shipped to Canada and the shipping was £75 GBP.

I have also just mailed you directly!

Hi JJ,

A great start.
I can see exactly what you are looking to describe as the workflow, and I like it.
I will suggest a couple of 'corrections' but not many.

The main one is that the final 'Active LUT' profile is just a verification pass - and is not used in making the LUT, unless you see errors that suggest the LUT manipulation tools may be needed, or a new Profile should be made as something has gone wrong.

Does this help?

Hi Steve,

Thx for comments. I made chgs to my post. When you modify a LUT, say from side effects from the light meter, how do you incorporate those changes into the Calibration LUT?

Kind Regards,

JJ

H JJ,

The LUT Manipulation tools directly alter the LUT after you have generated it from the profile.

So, for example, if you see that there are errors in the blacks due to the probe not reading well in such low-light levels you can 'filter out' the errors with the LUT Manipulation tools.

This is explained a bit here: http://www.lightillusion.com/probe_use.html - the bit on Low-Light errors.

I am also adding more info to the new Home Cinema page: http://www.lightillusion.com/home_cinema.html
That may help.

Cheers,

Steve

Hi Steve,

I think I chg'd my previous post for the worst so I'll repost on Wednesday. For some reason I started to think a profile run was the same as a calibration lut run, which I know it's not.

Hello!

I'm a beginner with LightSpace, and at the moment I 'm about testing it (3 days licence). My goal is to check, if I can work with LS to calibrate the Radiance XS3D (5x5x5 3D LUT).

After spending a few hours playing with LS trial, I'm surprised about the easiness. If I got the system right, only 2 steps are needed for calibration: Measuring (here it's named "Profiling"), either by using Quick Profiling or Display Characterization, and then generating the desired LUT for the display (Radiance).

NB: I find, it's not good to have the simulation probe not available anymore while using the 3 days test licence; it's only available with the trial version. That's bad for guys like me, (still) having no LightSpace supported probe ... (maybe the development will think about this). And because something went wrong with my sim probes saved data, I was forced to remove/reinstall LS again (w/o licence), to have it back again. Then I've repeated one quick + one detailed characterization profiling with the sim. Next I've entered the licence, and then LUT generating worked fine.

But now I have a few questions:

1. Function Color Space Conversion: The user manual says, Source Colour Space = desired Colour Space (for example Rec709), and so I have to set as Destination Colour Space the profiling (saved data of the sim probe). Is that correct for generating a Radiance LUT? (to be honestly, my "logical" thinking about source+destination is vice versa ...)
What will happen, swapping them?

2. LUT: How can I get a calculated LUT into the Lumagen? I think via File -> Export but currently there is no Lumagen listed. Ok, if I follow Steve's postings, the Radiance isn't supported yet (when done?) ... but if, does LS control the Radiance by RS232 (Calman like), or what's the way getting a LUT into one of the Radiance CMS banks 0 ...7?

Regards,
Harry

Hi Harry,

Thanks for the comments about the ease of operation - it really is that simple, but do follow the 'pre-calibration set-up instructions first!

Will look at the 'virtual probe' question... but, how have you done a profile with the 'sim' as we don't support that probe (it's not suitable for accurate calibration) and so I can't see how you have got data from it into LightSpace???

With the Colour Space Conversion the way it is set-up is correct - this is explained within the on-line User Manual.
Source is the 'colour space' of the source images... what they expect to be viewed within, and it's correct for all LUT generation, regardless of the final application.

To load LUTs into the Radiance use the 'Upload' function within the 'File' menu.

But, be aware some USB to Serial converters do not work - so check you can communicate ok first.

Cheers,

Steve

u need to connect the Lumagen to the PC - as Steve mentioned u need a USB-to-Serial adapter that WORKS WITH LS - I had one that worked fine with the Lumagen tools and other solutions, but did not work with LS... so if that's the case with u, u need to buy one that works with LS...

Once the Lumagen is connected to the PC and u have a created LUT active, e.g. Rec709, the File > Upload menu is available (it is not before)...

U need to manually select the CMS slot on ur Lumagen PRIOR to uploading (in the Lumagen OSD), there is no functionality in LS (currently)... there also (currently) will be no success message, I've requested both of these features, Steve said they will look into it...

Hi Steve, Mike
thanks for your assistance!

Steve:
but, how have you done a profile with the 'sim' as we don't support that probe (it's not suitable for accurate calibration)

Step-by-step, what I've done:

I've started LS w/o the licence in trail mode.
First I've done a reading with function Display Characterization, named it "Test 1 - Full Profile with SimProbe". Have performed a 2th reading via Quick Profiling using the Calibration Interface, named "Test 2 - Quick Profile with SimProbe". Then my profiles were listet in the Manage Colour Space box.

I entered the licence (LS still running).
My two test colour spaces were still present at Manage Colour Space.

Then I've opened Colour Space Conversion.
As Name I entered LUT Test 1
Settings: Source CS = Rec709, Destination CS = "Test 1 - Full Profile with SimProbe"

A message appeared "Colourspace Conversion Report: 74% within target gamut".
Because of the sim probe data this should be ok.

LS has opened a new window.
I've choosen the 3D Cube Graphic Viewer; the result looked ok to me (through the sim probe data I expected no perfect CS profile).

At this point I wanted to save my test LUT, thinking File -> Export is the right way for doing this; but there is no checkbox for the Lumagen.

mike_n:
u need a USB-to-Serial adapter that WORKS WITH LS

My Lumagen connectivity:
I have a RS232 PCI card in my HTPC, and the XS3D is permanently connected as "COM4". IMHO that must be working with every solution.

So I tried File -> Upload, but nothing happened (I expected any control or message window).
I closed LS and check'd my Radiance using Calman -> was working fine.

I dug up my Targus PA088E USB-to-RS232 adapter (Philips FTDI chip set), and first tested it with Calman.
The XS connection was properly again (now COM3).
I've closed Calman / run LS - still no success.

What Ì'm doing wrong?
