Megapixel HELIOS

ColourSpace can be integrated with Megapixel VR's HELIOS LED Processors for accurate Closed Loop display profiling and calibration.

  • ColourSpace INF/XPT/PRO/CAL
  • Closed Loop Profiling
  • Inbuilt TPG Operation
  • 3D LUTs
  • Image Sequence Probe

All HELIOS LED processors are ColourSpace Integrated.

ColourSpace Integration

Megapixel VR integration is controlled via the Hardware Options menu, accessed via the Profiling window.

Megapixel VR

Initial Setup

For specific Megapixel LED Processor operation, please refer to Megapixel's own user guides.

  • If required, make sure the correct drivers are installed
(If necessary, verify via Windows Device Manager)
  • Connect input/output video signal cables to the LED Processor
(It may be necessary to have a valid video signal input into the processor)
  • Connect the Megapixel LED Processor to the ColourSpace laptop via a network cable, and start ColourSpace
  • Open a ColourSpace Profiling window, and set the desired options via the Settings menu, as required
  • Select Hardware Options, and select Megapixel from the Hardware drop-down list
  • Enter the correct IP address, and select Connect
  • To make sure there is no existing calibration data active, and associated colour space selection, etc., select Unity Bypass from the Select LUT option, and press Upload
  • Using the Calibration Patches option enable patches for profiling
(If Custom patch sizes are available they are set via the ColourSpace Settings window)

Potentially, when Unity Bypass data is Uploaded all settings will be nullified. Should it be desired that different LUTs and other settings remain as defined, upload a the Default Unity LUT, which uploads just the LUT, and does not reset any additional settings. Set necessary settings, such as Brightness/Contrast/Black-Level, before any LUT Upload.

As soon as a Calibration Patches selection is made the output of the Megapixel LED Processor will display the patch colour as defined within the ColourSpace Manual Measure and Characterisation menus.

Megapixel Options

The right hand Megapixel Options menu contains capabilities specific to the Megapixel LED Processor, including screen brightness, gamma, colour temp controls, as well as in-built Test Patterns, and specific colour management options.

Please refer to Megapixel's own user guides for further details operation information.

Profiling Operation

To profile the Virtual Set screens via the Megapixel LED Processor using ColourSpace navigate to the desired profiling mode - Manual Measure or Display Characterisation.

The screens connected to the Megapixel will mimic the colour displayed, using the patch settings defined via the Hardware Options and Settings menus.
Note: The keyboard 'O' key can be used within the Hardware and Manual Measure menus to quickly Disable/Enable the TPG.

Profiling can then be performed as normal, using the probe connected to ColourSpace, and with the Megapixel connected screen displaying the required patches.

Image Sequence Probe

As an alternative to direct profiling with a probe, the Image Sequence Probe is a very unique ColourSpace capability, and in essence is a form of virtual probe that is capable of taking measurements from an image sequence.

In this way, an entire image capture path can effectively be profiled, including screen, lens, camera, making this a very unique calibration approach for difficult colour management signal paths, such as with Virtual Sets.

For more information see the Image Sequence Probe page of the website.

LUT Use

After profiling, a Calibration LUT can be generated as normal within ColourSpace LUT Tools, and uploaded directly into the Megapixel.
Note: While both Input and Post 3D LUTs are available, the Input 3D LUT is the standard LUT to use. The Post 3D LUT can be used initially, for a basic Gamma correction (for example, 1 1D LUT within a 3D LUT holder), and the system re-profiled for final calibration using the Input 3D LUT.
