to answer to Steve, : i know i know... The fact is that grading had already been done this way... Before starting the grade, i had a rec 709 D65 calibration but the DOP and the movie director didn't recognize their picture with this calibration. they convince me to tweak my projector, that i know it was calibrated, in order to find colors they were monitoring on set. It was me, junior colorist and my probe against a 70 years old movie director, his DOP and their eyes... Guess who win... Grading done, they were happy and of course i was just asking to myself "what the fuck is this gonna look on tv and on cinema..."
So all the job i just did is just a way to be sure that what i see in my grading room will be very close to the cinema projection, and I know, of course, that this is not the correct way to work.
